Mount Papandayan has an Interesting Place
Climbers may already be familiar with Mount Papandayan, one of the mountains in Garut which is located in Karamat Wangi, Cisurupan, Garut. The distance is quite an hour's drive from the city center of Garut via the Cikajang highway to the west. There are two entrances to Mount Papandayan, through Pangalengan Bandung and Cisurupan Garut.

Why is this called Hutan Mati “Dead Forest”?
For visitors who only want to enjoy the natural beauty of Mount Papandayan, but not to climb to the peak of the mountain, Hutan Mati is a right choice. In line with the name of the place, Hutan Mati is a savanna forest that was once surrounded by Cantigi trees that died long ago due to the eruption of Mount Papandayan in 2002, causing the plants in the area to catch fire and form unique branches.

The condition of the place surrounded by dead black trees may sound haunted, but in fact, visitors are presented with a unique and beautiful view as well as cool air because it is on a mountain.

This place can be reached by 1.5-hour walk from the entrance of Mount Papandayan. The entry ticket is also affordable around Rp 20,000 for weekdays and Rp 30.000 for weekends. The journey may be quite a challenge with an uphill road, past some stairs and limestone rocks, but the beauty of the Hutan Mati “Dead Forest” can pay off the journey once we get there. Besides, there are several posts when heading to the Dead Forest, where toilets are available as well as resting places and stalls that provide snacks and hot tea for visitors who feel tired.
